Summer's Skin Cancer Clinic
As Australians, we are fortunate to have an abundance of sunshine, making our country the perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors. However "at least 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime", making it crucial to take proactive measures in protecting and caring for our skin.
At Summers Family Practice, we want to empower you to continue your favourite outdoor activities by providing comprehensive skin cancer detection through the Summers Skin Cancer Clinic.
It can be difficult to notice important changes in skin spots, particularly as some signs of skin cancer can be subtle. A trained doctor who identifies a skin cancer early can provide appropriate management to produce a positive outcome.
Skin Checks
Convenient non-invasive skin cancer checks are designed to alleviate fear of unknown skin issues. Our doctors who have a background and special interest in dermatology are experienced in helping patients with advice and treatment to address their concerns. During the consultation, a handheld device called the dermatoscope is used to provide microscopic analysis of the skin.
A typical skin check takes place in a standard 15 minute appointment, however extensive skin conditions may require a long appointment. During the skin check, procedures such as biopsies or cryotherapy of the skin can be performed. Additional consultations may be booked to complete biopsies and surgical excisions.
Our Doctors
Our in-house skin-cancer expert is Dr William Nguyen. Not only having long-term experience in skin cancer medicine, he possesses extensive surgical experience. He is able to perform large excisions, flaps and grafts on any part of the body including the face, ears and scalp with a wide variety of techniques. This allows Summers Skin Cancer Clinic to be your one stop shop for skin cancer examination, diagnosis and treatment.
Our other special interest doctors Dr Lucy Rigby, Dr David Lin, Dr Shandith Tennakoon and Dr Kathryn Willott also form part of our team for skin checks, biopsies and standard excisions.
Patient Diginity
Skin cancers can also occur in areas of the body that are not exposed to the sun. While our doctors offer a full head to toe examination, undergarments are kept on to respect patient privacy and dignity. If there are any suspicious spots in these locations, please request specific examination of the concerning area. To ensure patient comfort and satisfaction, a chaperone can be requested at any part of the skin check examination.
Additional Services
In addition to skin cancer medicine, our doctors can also provide professional opinion on other dermatology issues such as acne and eczema management. Non-malignant spots such as age spots, skin tags or benign moles can also be discussed and considered for treatment.
