Just a script?

At Summers Family Practice, we encourage staying on top of prescription renewals and medical reviews as essential for maintaining your health and wellbeing. While it may seem straightforward to simply renew your medications, some scripts require careful assessment of your condition and symptoms to ensure the best outcomes.

Medications for chronic conditions often need more than just a quick renewal. For example, blood pressure medications may require a check-up to monitor your levels, while antidepressants like SSRIs might involve regular blood tests to assess electrolyte balance. Each ongoing medication has their prescription and monitoring requirements to ensure your treatment remains both safe and effective.

Sometimes, symptoms that seem minor may need closer evaluation. What seems like an obvious urinary tract infection (UTI), for instance, should be carefully assessed to confirm the diagnosis and rule out complications like kidney infections (pyelonephritis). A urine test is often done before prescribing any antibiotics to ensure you receive the right treatment.

Doctors at our practice take great care to ensuring script requests are discussed in a consultation to ensure requested medication is individualised to your health history, and will suggest required monitoring and proactive measures for your general health.

Telehealth Appointments

Can’t make it in person? Telehealth (phone or video call) is a convenient option for assessing many health concerns. It’s a great way to discuss your symptoms or request prescription renewals if you cannot attend our practice in person. To be eligible for Medicare rebate, you must have had an appointment in person within the last 12 months with a doctor at our practice.

The Value of Seeing Your Regular GP In Person

For those with a complex medical history, having a GP familiar with your health background can make all the difference. While all GPs in our practice are able to access your records, continuity of care ensures your regular GP is aware of the nuances of your treatment, tailored to your unique needs.

Urgent Script Requests

If you need an urgent prescription and can’t get an appointment with your regular doctor, please call our reception team. We’ll do our best to accommodate your request and keep your treatment on track.

Planning Ahead for Holidays

Running out of medication during the holidays can be stressful. Anticipate your needs by checking your prescriptions and requesting renewals ahead of time. This ensures you’re covered, no matter the season.
